From March 1st 2021, the agreement between the European Union and China, which provides for the protection and guardianship of Grappa, the Italian distillate par excellence, will come into force.
This was established by the
bilateral agreement signed in November 2019, for the protection from imitations and usurpations in the respective territories of a double list of 100 geographical indications including, for Italy, the denominations Barolo, Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti, Prosecco Conegliano Valdobbiadene, Barbaresco, Brachetto d'Acqui, Soave and Tokaj.
The IG Grappa was also able to benefit of total protection, with no transitory phasing-out (skimming).
A great satisfaction of AssoDistil, the association of Italian distillers, which actively participated during the negotiation phases.
