The term Grappa, indicating the marc distillate, has become of common use in Italy between the end of the last century and the beginning of the twentieth century. For the large use made by the soldiers in World War I, the very first diffusion has probably started from the North to the rest of the peninsula. Many terminology researches were conducted, many due to the need for the appropriate use of the word for commercial purposes. It is interesting the geographical distribution of the many synonyms with which this distillate is known.
